It's well known that acne, whilst being perceived as an outer problem, can affect sufferers deeply on the inside too.
Acne is basically an inflammation of the sebaceous glands and hair follicles. No one really knows what causes it but the vast majority of us will have the pleasure of experiencing it at some point in our lives.
There are many cures and regimes that can lessen the effects and in some cases clear it completely. But what about those people who can't find the correct regime for their skin or who just feel acne is something they will grow out of in time.
The psychological effects can be huge. The acne may only be slight but it is not uncommon for the sufferer to enlarge the problem in their minds. What is in fact a mere pimple, visible only to onlookers if they are up close, can in the sufferer's mind be a huge spot impossible to miss by other people.
This "illusion" is just the beginning for the teenage or adult sufferer. Once that way of thinking is instilled, it becomes a habit and from then on any acne breakout becomes a disaster and the paranoia grows with the feeling that everyone is looking and pointing at your spots.
This can transform into a bigger psychological problem as self-esteem plummets and confidence in oneself is lost. All this because of one or two little red spots.
It's vitally important not to let your mind take over. It is a human trait to think the worst and the more we think about something the more ingrained into our psyche it becomes. Problems and worries expand the more we dwell on them.
Of course one way to deal with the problem is to tackle the acne itself through any number of cures and treatments. But it is possible that even when the physical problem disappears a mental residue is left behind leading to a lack of self confidence in later life.
Take the chance now to realise that you and only you can control what goes on in your head. Realise that it is only your outer shell that you are worrying over and no one can affect the real you inside.
Acne is a skin condition and let's be honest to spend a lot of time worrying and dwelling over your skin is at best shallow and at its worst incredibly vain. If you can't treat it, hold your head up high and realise that people aren't laughing at you behind your back and even if they are they're merely projecting their own insecurities onto you.
Acne is a condition of the outer you, don't let it affect your self-esteem and confidence – you have a good deal more important things to be getting on with.

Learn about Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)
Traditional Chinese Medicine
Western and Chinese medicine differ in the way an illness or disease is viewed. While Western medicine tends to treat the effects of the illness or disease, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) emphazizes on uncovering and treating the root or roots of each problem.
TCM treatment is more holistic. It is about balancing the body's system (Ying/Yang) and increasing it's immunity to fight against diseases.
Main aspects of TCM
Unlike Western medicine which relies on a host of equipments and machineries to help the doctor in diagnosis and treatment, TCM relies simply mostly on the practitioners' skills, experience and power of observation to detect and treat health problems.
Observation
The first aspect of TCM is observation. By looking at a patient's complexion, posture, appearance and movement, the TCM practioner is able to guage from first impression if a person is healthy or make initial diagnosis of his problem.
Smell and hearing
A TCM practitioner can diagnose also from the smell of a sick person's breath or by listening to the sound of his cough. Internal problems are often manifested through external symptoms.
Question and Answer
The TCM physician will also ask the patient a series of questions including their area of discomfort, diet, sleep and physical conditions.
Through a series of questions and answers, he will be able to further narrow down the patients problem.
Physical examination
Lastly, the patient's pulse is read, his tougue, throat and eyes are examined to arrive at a full diagnosis.
Treatment
Once a diagnosis has been arrived at, the patient is treated with one or more of treatments including accupuncture, TuiNa (Massage) or herbal prescriptions. These are the more common treatment methods and they are natural, holistic and non invasive.
In Chinese medicine, many discomfort are believed to be due to energy channels or meridian points in the body being blocked or misaligned. Accupuncture will unblock or re-direct these clogged or misaligned channel by stimulating energy flow within the appropriate meridians of the body.
Herbal remedies are more suited for internal problems such as kidney, diabetes or liver problems. In olden days, herbal prescriptions are brewed for many hours to get a liquid herbal drink. Today, similar effects is achieved through pills or syrup.

Isn't That Teflon in Your Microwave Popcorn?
Glenn Evers, a former DuPont Co. engineer, has accused the chemical giant of deliberately ignoring evidence that its grease-resistant coating on paper products may have been entering consumers' blood at high levels.PFOAEvers first became concerned about the health effects of a perfluorinated chemical used for food packaging in 1987, when company tests showed it was dissolving into wet paper at much higher levels than the FDA had approved. When the paper coating is dissolved and absorbed into the human body, it breaks down into perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), a likely carcinogen.DuPont has denied Evers's allegations, The FDA will also soon decide how much to fine DuPont for failing to report for more than 20 years' possible health effects associated with PFOA.Millions of Bags of PopcornMeanwhile, an FDA study has revealed that PFOA could be present in millions of bags of microwave popcorn. This alone could account for over 20 percent of the PFOA levels present in the average U.S. citizen. Most Americans have 4-5 parts per billion of PFOA in their blood; the source has been largely unknown. Products such as nonstick cookware such as Teflon pans, which are produced by a process that uses PFOA, are thought to play a role.Fluorotelomer CoatingsThe FDA found that microwave popcorn bags are treated with more grease-repelling fluorotelomer coatings than any other food wrappers. Many of these coatings contain mixtures of long-chain chemicals that can be metabolized to PFOA.A significant amount of the fluorotelomers transferred from the bags to the popcorn oil. Microwave popcorn bags are particularly dangerous, because not only is the amount of fluorotelomers in the coatings is high, but because popcorn bags get very hot, heating to more than 200 degrees Celsius in a short time. This significantly increases the chances of the fluorotelomers entering the food itself. Environmental Science and Technology November 16, 2005Washington Post November 17, 2005 Dr. Mercola's Comment:Maybe you have the impression of Teflon that I used to have. How could anything so pervasive and useful possibly be harmful? If it were the government certainly would not allow this on the market. Besides, it is just too diffcult and time wasting to stop using non-stick pans.Well, if this is your current thought process, time to reconsider. I first started becoming alerted to this problem a few years ago and then earlier this year Gary Craig reported amazing anecdotal improvements for a chronic health problem once he threw away his Teflon pans. Then we started receiving many other similar reports. What really seals this issue is the federal government nailed DuPont late last month for LYING about Teflon. They knew it caused health problems for many years but never told the truth about. The government is now deciding if they will fine them 1/3 of a billion dollars for not reporting that Teflon posed substantial risk of injury to health or the environment.Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) -- the dangerous chemical used to make Teflon -- can be difficult to avoid, as it likely coats both the non-stick cookware with which you prepare meals and the paper plates you use to eat them.Fortunatelymany are starting to pay attention to this; Evers testimony in a recent trial may have pushed his former company to settle with thousands of Ohio and West Virginia residents whose tap water had been contaminated with PFOA.Aside from the issue of not using anything in the microwave, it is probably best to avoid grains like corn asit will raise your insulin levels.Additionally, nearly all corn is genetically modified.Your best protection against PFOA is to throw away those non-stick pans and avoid them elsewhere as much as you can. But, if you must continue to use them, avoid doing so at high heatas that will volatilize this potentially dangerous chemical. It also sounds like it's a good idea to stay away from microwave popcorn.
